New Oceanis 55.1 Has All The Attributes Of A Huge  ‘Couple’s Yacht’
By Yachting Life / 13 December 2017 /
LAUNCHED in Cannes last year and having already been exhibited in Genoa and Barcelona, the new Beneteau Oceanis 55.1 is already proving popular with newcomers to the brand as well as owners of existing Beneteaus, writes YL boat test editor Andi Robertson.
It is a big change from its predecessor, the 55, which was much more about maximising accommodation and sleeping options with five different variations sleeping up to ten people. But, in line with the new, earlier launched 62 and the 51.1, the Oceanis 55.1 is more about space, luxury and a much higher standard of finish.
As we learned during Beneteau’s autumn press test at Port Ginestre, just 15km west of Barcelona airport, the new 55.1 is really a couple’s boat.

Comfortable Oceanis 55.1
n the wake of the new Oceanis 51.1 and the sumptuous Oceanis Yacht 62, the Oceanis 55 has evolved into a 55.1 version that rounds off the Beneteau offer in the stylishly elegant large cruiser segment. With a tauter profile, this new 55.1 has retractable davits on deck and an in-mast furling system combined with a self-tacking jib that will make manoeuvres considerably easier. Inspired by the Oceanis Yacht, the helm consoles, equipped with large navigation displays, favour visibility and manoeuvres under sail.
For the interior atmosphere of the cruiser there is great freedom of choice, with brushed oak woodwork that is very much on trend. The chart table and its comfortable pivoting chair, the new upholstery in the lounge area and the incredible optimisation of space in the master cabin – 160 cm wide island bed and a separate en-suite shower room – give this chic Oceanis 55.1 all the hallmarks of a luxury yacht.

Oceanis 55.1: The Blue-Water Cruising Standard
The Beneteau Oceanis range of sailboats has long been known as the market leader because of their adaptability to blue water cruising or around the buoy racing in your local harbor. The newest and most luxurious to join this family of open ocean adventurers is the Oceanis 55.1.
The 55.1 follows on the heels of the hugely successful Oceanis 55, but offers even more performance and innovation. Her lines are both contemporary and classic, which make her look as fast anchored as she is under full sail. She has been designed and built to take on epic adventures, yet is not the least bit intimidating when it comes to handling, docking, comfort and luxury. Everyone onboard from the captain to guests will be able to tell this is a boat of distinguished pedigree.
