Experience Sailing First Hand with Discover Sailing in St. Petersburg, Florida

Sail America’s Discover Sailing program brings people to the water and to the sport of sailing. This year, we take the program to a whole new level by adding a diverse platform of opportunities on land and in the water. Dozens of sailing manufacturers and vendors will be on hand to fill you in on all the latest in gear and equipment at our Sailing Pavilion. Here’s what Discover Sailing is offering at the St. Petersburg Power & Sailboat Show:

Free Sailing Excursions are available right off the show dock on a first come, first serve basis throughout the weekend aboard fabulous boats from some of the world’s top manufacturers. Novice sailors are invited to fall in love with the sport, and experienced sailors are invited to find the sport again, or experience a different style or type of boat than they are accustomed to. No matter where you fall on the experience spectrum, getting a chance to hit the water with an experienced captain is always a joy.  Murray Yacht Sales and Sailing Florida will have the Beneteau Oceanis 40 available to introduce you to love of sailing.

Discover Sailing’s Dockside Seminars are new this year and provide free, hands-on demonstrations of useful sailing gear, techniques, and instrumentation. The dynamic presentations by representatives and manufacturers will help sailors get their questions answered. Sail America members will share their knowledge and skills first-hand with the consumer audience, and most importantly demonstrate the unique and important features of their products. Schedules and presenters will be announced prior to the show.

Discover Sailing On-The-Water Lessons are an opportunity to bring the Free Sailing Excursions to the next level. These paid lessons with an experienced ASA certified instructor who
also hold US Coast Guard Captain’s licenses
will give sailors of any level hands-on skills to take back to their own boats. Learn the terms, the gear, and the best practice of the sailing elite.

On-The-Water Lessons are limited to 4 people per time slot to insure that everyone on board gets a chance to experience all the facets of sailing while getting your questions answered. As an added benefit the course fee will be credited towards the cost of the full ASA 101 Course if you decide to take the Class from Sailing Florida Charters.

Sail America Seminar Series is a combination of free and paid learning opportunities on a range of topics, from Open Water Navigation to Cruising for Couples. Choose from this full suite of topics and instructors and maximize your boat show experience by leaving a better, more informed sailor than you arrived. Seminar topics and schedules are available for registration at http://www.showmanagement.com/st_petersburg-boat-show/event/seminars/

This collection of unique opportunities is brought to you by Sail America and the Discover Sailing program and is specifically designed to introduce you and your family to the broad range of exciting opportunities the sport of sailing offers.
