Sailing World magazine named the Figaro Beneteau 3 as the 2019 Boat of the Year, after evaluating the latest high-performance race boats introduced in North America. This first production foiling one-design mono hull ever designed is a combination of technology and innovation.
Sailing World has conducted Boat of the Year Awards since 1985, making it the most respected award for new performance sailboats. In September, Sailing World’s independent judges conducted tests in Newport, Rhode Island.
“The Figaro Beneteau 3 is purpose-built for competitors of France’s annual Solitaire du Figaro Race, the unofficial world championship of offshore singlehanded sailing, but it is also designed to serve a blossoming segment of the sport,” said Dave Reed, Sailing World editor and director of Boat of the Year. “Through a collaboration of offshore sailing legends and top French marine companies, rank-and-file sailors now have access to a foil-assist platform once exclusive to elite offshore racing sailors and bigger boats. Its foil system, however, is only one element of an excellent overall package.”
Created for the French offshore racing championship, this new racing boat represents the culmination of a long-term team effort. “It is a great honor! The most prestigious award in the US, and we are pleased to try to spread the accessible avant-garde in offshore sailing internationally with this project”, said Gianguido Girotti, General Manager of Beneteau.
“This is an impressive achievement. The career of the Figaro Beneteau 3 has started exceptionally. We have already sold two boats in the States, one of which won the Pacific Cup.”, mentioned Jean-Francois Lair, Director of Sales at Beneteau America.
The Figaro Beneteau 3 will feature the 2019 Boat of the Year Awards in the winter issue of the magazine.
