First Sail on the new Beneteau Oceanis 45

Below is a preliminary report from Wayne Burdick, President of Beneteau USA:

“Yesterday morning I was fortunate to sail the Oceanis 45 with Charles Doane, editor at SAIL.(that’s a shot of her before we shoved off) Winds were about 10 to 14 knots during an ideal Indian summer day on Narragansett Bay. With the taller roller furling mainsail (remember there will also be a shorter ICW height furler mast available) and her easy-to-tack short overlapping genoa, the 45 truly scoots and is a real joy to sail. Well balanced and alive she easily hit mid 7’s on a reach and in the puffs her responsiveness was mated with evident form stability provided by her substantial hull chine. Under power the 54 HP Yanmar sail drive proved that horizons will be closer than you think, for with the throttle down, over 8 knots was reached in relative quiet. ”
